Whom Are You Teaching?

If you do not have information about the target audience, you will never be able to create a video that reaches the right audience.

For educational videos, I divide the target audience into three categories: 1) Those who have no interest in studying. 2) Those who want to study. 3) Excellent students.

Those Who Have No Interest in Studying

These are students who have no interest in studying and only want to pass an exam somehow. They watch educational videos solely to pass an exam. If they do not find exam-related content in your videos, they will not like your videos. They do not hold teachers in high regard, and they do not hesitate to make derogatory comments.

If your target audience includes these students (which is the case for many people), you cannot succeed on YouTube because you will try to create very basic videos that will not appeal to the other two categories of students. Additionally, students like these usually wake up only a short time before their exams, so your videos will only be watched during exam times. For this type of audience, motivational videos are usually more preferred, even if they do not understand scientific content.

Those Who Want to Study

If we talk in terms of numbers, these students are the majority. They want to study but often end up being average in class because they do not find a teacher who can explain things in their way. If they find a teacher whose teaching style matches their learning style, they can perform very well.

These students are the ones who, if your teaching resonates with them, become your fans and subscribe to your channel. To teach these students effectively, you do not need to make your videos overly simplified. Videos made for this type of student often work for all types of audiences.

Educational channels that target these students are highly successful because not only do their views increase, but they also gain subscribers. Viewers eagerly await their next videos, and these channels attract not only academic-minded individuals but also those interested in motivational, guidance, and various other types of videos.

Excellent Students

These students grasp any topic quickly. Even after creating videos that teach common topics, it may not impress them enough to become your followers or subscribers. To attract these students, you need to do something new, something that challenges them beyond just academics. These students do not care how many videos you create; they are interested in whether there is something challenging or unique in each video.

Regarding these three types of students, it's essential to determine your target audience and check whether your videos are suitable for them before planning each video.

For most teachers, it's better to focus on students who want to study. You can set a goal to create a video every day for these students. Alongside that, you can also target excellent students by making one video every fifteen days or once a month, but make sure to prepare it thoroughly. However, for those who do not want to study, do not put in extra effort, as it will likely lead to disappointment.
