What is ET-Mantra

ET is an abbreviation of Educational Technology and Mantra is a word from the Sanskrit language that means “instrument of thought.” In ET-Mantra, I am going to give you mantras that will help you to use educational technology to create effective educational content and contribute to building a better society.

Motivation behind starting ET-Mantra

I learned a lot about the use of technology in education during the time I spent at IIT Bombay while pursuing Ph.D. in Educational Technology. It’s an excellent department with wonderful people. I learned about the educational psychology, educational tools, educational content creation, instructional design and much more, all of which can’t be described here.

During that time I got the chance to meet many educational researchers including Padma Shri Dr. Deepak B. Phatak. Researcher’s work is useful for the society and need of this information age. They share their findings via research papers but their research hardly reach to teachers, parents, institutes or students which are their target audience.

I am starting ET-Mantra to fill this gap. I will try my best to bring the output of educational technology research to you in the form of blog, audio, videos and courses. Goals of ET-Mantra

• Spread the awareness about Educational Technology and ICT among teachers, parents, institutes and students.
• Inform you about the theory and practice of educational approaches to learning.
• Help in use of technological tools and media that assist in the communication of knowledge, and its development and exchange
• Run courses on use of learning management systems (LMS) and educational tools.

Creating educational content might not be a big deal but creating effective educational content is certainly a big deal. For example, PowerPoint is one of the most used tool for education but you will find teachers who create their PowerPoint as they are writing books, which is not a good way to use PowerPoint.

Educational researchers spend their time in finding out what works best and what not. I want to bring that information to you with the help of blogs and videos. I plan to read and write about the theory and practice of teaching and learning. This information will help parents to help in scaffolding children in a correct way and it will help teachers to create effective learning material.

Help in use of technological tools and media that assist in the communication of knowledge, and its development and exchange

An LMS, software and hardware is useless if you don’t know how to use it effectively. For this I will bring some courses on MOODLE and other LMSs, video tutorials on online services like google drive, PowerPoint and so on.

Some of you might be aware of the fact that I also run a YouTube channel “Learn By Watch“. This is a successful YouTube channel. I worked hard to manage this channel and I learned a lot from this. I want to share all my findings with the teachers so that they can also think about starting their own channel and contribute to the society while making some amount of money.

This is my top most priority and this is the first project that I am going to run in ET-Mantra. You will learn about educational video creation and making money on YouTube.

Run courses on use of learning management systems (LMS) and educational tools.

Another goal of starting ET-mantra is to give you information about the LMSs, authoring tools, hardware and teach you how to use these tools in teaching and learning. There are many LMSs available in the market, some are free some costs a lot. Which one to choose, what are the parameters to choose a required LMS or tools this all will be discussed here in this website.

I will also try to provide these tools to you at reasonable cost so that you can learn them effectively. This means you can expect Hosting service to deploy your LMS. I will inform you if there is trial version of an educational software or service is available or not.
